The European Commission launches a public consultation in relation to MiFID II and MiFIR

The Malta Financial Services Authority (“MFSA”) has published a circular on the 5th of March 2020 bringing to the attention of market participants the European Commission’s (“EC”) launch of a public consultation. This consultation relates to the regulatory framework of Directive 2014/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 May 2014 on markets in financial instruments (“MiFID II”) and Regulation (EU) 600/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 May 2014 on markets in financial instruments (“MiFIR”) for investment firms and market operators.
The objective of this consultation is to gather evidence from stakeholders on areas that would require specific adjustments in MiFID II and/or MiFIR. The EC would also like to receive recommendations on which issues should be prioritised in the event that the MiFID II and MiFIR rulebooks are revised.
In view of the above, relevant market participants, such as data service providers, trading venues, investment firms, asset managers, fintech organisations or any other entities being able to contribute to the public consultation are invited to fill in the online questionnaire by the 20th of April 2020.
